Chih-Jia (Bess) Chao is a PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy. She earned her PharmD degree from National Taiwan University. Her research focuses on bioengineering dendritic cell (DC) therapies for cancer immunotherapy. She has contributed to 5 published papers and holds a pending patent. Her recent work, published in Nature Communications, presents a novel DC therapy that enhances tumor antigen capture and modulates the immune environment in tumors and lymph nodes. Chih-Jia’s research has been recognized with the Innovation Award at UIC College of Pharmacy Research Day (2022, 2023), the UIC Chancellor's Translational Research Initiative Award, and a Proof-of-Concept Commercialization Award. She is also a recipient of the Government Scholarship to Study Abroad from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan and is actively engaged in sharing her work with the broader scientific community.
