Haichen Nie, PhD

Dr. Haichen Nie works for Teva Pharmaceuticals as an Associate Director, leading a team that develops formulations and manufacturing processes for protein-based drug products and advances the application of novel excipients across multiple dosage forms. He received his PhD from the Department of Industrial and Molecular Pharmaceutics at Purdue University and possesses extensive experience in preclinical development, formulation, process optimization, and commercial manufacturing.

An expert in formulation sciences for oral and sterile drug products, pharmaceutical solids, and physicochemical characterizations, Dr. Nie has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in pharmaceutical journals and has been granted several patents and book chapters. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Purdue University College of Pharmacy, where he teaches PharmD and PhD students and mentors graduate research.

Dr. Nie serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of several highly regarded pharmaceutical journals. In addition, he is an expert committee member for the US Pharmacopeia, and he chaired the AAPS Excipient Community from 2021 to 2023. His contributions to excipient technology and formulation sciences have been recognized by the 2023 Henk De Jong Industrial Research Achievement Award from IPEC. In 2025, Dr. Nie received Purdue University College of Pharmacy’s Outstanding Early Career Award.
