Respiratory Research Scientist
RTI International
Durham, North Carolina
Dr. Erin A. Huber is a respiratory research scientist in the Exposure and Protection team at RTI International. Prior to joining RTI, she received her doctorate in pharmaceutical science with a concentration in toxicology from St. John’s University in 2022 and was an ORISE postdoctoral fellow at the US EPA from 2022 – 2023. In her role at RTI, she is leading projects to build confidence in the use of air-liquid interface (ALI)-differentiated primary human airway epithelial cell models to increase the human relevance of inhaled chemical testing and the application of these models for chemical safety assessments. In addition to advancing their development, she is also actively working to build context to support their application in both research and regulatory decision making by fostering collaborations across sectors and stakeholder groups. She co-led the efforts of the international RespTox collaborative to develop a harmonized protocol and consensus reporting standards for the trans epithelial electrical resistance (TEER) assay which was published in 2024. She is an award-winning toxicologist receiving multiple awards for her research such as the Gaberiel L. Plaa Education Award, Society of Toxicology John Doull Risk Assessment Award, and the Colgate-Palmolive Fellowship Award in In Vitro Toxicology.
