Gaia Colombo, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Ferrara, Italy. She earned her Ph.D. in Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics from the University of Parma, following research at MIT under Prof. Robert Langer on microparticle-based drug delivery systems.
Her research focuses on nasal, respiratory, and oral drug delivery, especially for rare diseases and orphan drugs, with growing interest in loco-regional cancer therapy. She currently leads a project on cisplatin/hyaluronan nanocomplexes for targeted ovarian cancer treatment, funded by Fondazione Umberto Veronesi.
Dr. Colombo has published over 80 scientific papers, contributed to 10 book chapters, and is inventor on 5 patents. She has supervised more than 100 Master’s theses and 4 Ph.D. candidates. She served as Deputy Rector for Internationalization (2016–2021) and is active in scientific publishing as Associate Editor of Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy and Editorial Board member of AAPS PharmSciTech and Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology.
She has been an invited speaker at institutions across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. In 2018, she received the EUFEPS Women in Pharmaceutical Sciences Award.
