Melanie Marota is a Director in Oral Formulation Sciences at Merck. Before joining Merck, Melanie graduated with a combined Master's and Bachelor's of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University. Currently, she oversees drug product development from first in human studies to launch. Melanie brings nearly 18 years of experience in oral drug product development, with a strong focus on translational therapeutics and targeted delivery platforms. She has played a key role in advancing several pipeline assets and commercial products, including Belsomra, Zepatier, Welireg, and Lagevrio. Her work spans therapeutic and innovation areas such as infectious disease, immunology, and oral peptide delivery. She has authored and contributed to numerous publications, presentations, and patent applications.

She has led formulation and project teams through all stages of development—from early formulation design to commercial scale-up—and has deep expertise in enabled formulation technologies, including spray drying and downstream processing. Melanie is also passionate about mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and driving innovation in drug delivery.
