Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Houston College of Pharmacy
Mikayla Skillman is a Ph.D. candidate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy under the mentorship of Dr. Diana S.-L. Chow. Her research centers on translational pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), with an emphasis on drug repurposing, combination therapy optimization, and preclinical-to-clinical translation in oncology.
Her work integrates in vitro and in vivo pharmacological evaluations, including synergy assessment, tissue distribution analysis, and PK/PD modeling, to better understand drug behavior and treatment response in cancer models. Mikayla applies advanced quantitative tools, such as Phoenix WinNonlin, to characterize exposure–response relationships and guide rational dose selection for future clinical applications.
Beyond her research, she is passionate about advancing precision medicine and developing innovative therapeutic strategies that improve cancer treatment outcomes. Mikayla is also dedicated to scientific communication and mentoring, with a strong commitment to bridging pharmacological research and translational impact.
