Kang Chen obtained his B.S. degree in biochemistry from Fudan University in China. As a graduate student, he studied protein structure and folding using NMR at UConn Health Center and at New York University (NYU). After graduation with PhD in chemistry from NYU, he had been at NIH as a postdoc and staff scientist, developing NMR methods to study protein structure and dynamics. In 2014 he moved to the US Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug evaluation and Research (CDER) where he develops NMR methods to assess the quality of complex pharmaceuticals including proteins, peptides, polysaccharides and oil-in-water emulsion products.
