Application Lab Manager - Formulation Scientist
Shin-Etsu
Totowa, New Jersey
David Nakhla is a pharmacist with a PhD in pharmaceutics and currently serves as the manager of Shin-Etsu’s Pharmaceutical Application Laboratory in the United States. In this role, he leads efforts to discover and develop novel applications of Shin-Etsu’s pharmaceutical excipients in oral solid dosage forms. As an expert in cellulose-based excipients, David partners with pharmaceutical and biotech scientists to address formulation challenges, delivering technical support through research collaborations and scientific presentations.
David’s current research focuses on particle engineering to improve flowability through dry and wet granulation, enhancing solubility of poorly soluble APIs using amorphous solid dispersions, and modifying drug release profiles.
Prior to joining Shin-Etsu, David’s doctoral research centered on solubility enhancement via cyclodextrin complexation and extended-release delivery using polymeric (PLGA) microparticles. He also holds a Master’s degree in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, with deep expertise in HPLC-UV and LC-MS/MS method development for small-molecule quantitation.
David has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, serves as a reviewer for leading pharmaceutical journals, and is an inventor on two U.S. patent applications.
